Since this was last summer holiday, the CG was extremely busy and crowded. In some areas units were very close together. Also, since this towards the end of camping season, many of the sites were not level due to much use over the summer time. For some reason, the water had a yellow tint to it this time. That is even with a filter installed. The Wi-Fi was so-so. Either the Wi-Fi was working well or it was at snail’s pace or would not move. Dogs – if visiting here on a busy weekend, be prepared to experience a large influx of dogs of all breeds. Be sure your dog is leashed at all times as some walkers with dogs are more aggressive than others. This is still a wonderful CG, run well and that is why we gave it a 9.
If your family likes trees, this CG will be a good fit. In fact there are so many trees; they create obstacles entering some of the sites. The internal roads are mostly gravel and very narrow. Larger units will have a tough time maneuvering on the roads and entering sites without the help of others or movement of fire rings/other RV’s. Most of the concrete picnic table pads were old and generally will not align with most of the RV/TT doors, therefore mud is tracked into the units. We found the camp store to be overpriced. The staff did an outstanding job this weekend in dealing with constant torrential type rain storms. The creek in rear of CG started to rise due to the rain. The staff carefully watched this situation. They were proactive in moving units to assure no one was in harm’s way. We commend their diligence staying on top of this critical situation. We will again visit this CG.
We were presently surprised with this CG. We found so many families playing together and having so much fun. Memories were surely being created. In fact one group set up what looked like a beach setting around their campers with activities for the children related to being at the beach. You could hear children having a blast with the adults. The swimming pool was outstanding. This pool even has lifeguards. The CG is set far enough from I-75 that all you could hear at night was nature. They have set up the sites allowing much space between each site and grassy areas behind. Only draw back: the sites are not set at an angle therefore creating a tough time to back in. They have no pull through sites. Also, the sites do not have sewer hookups but they do have four dump stations. In talking to campers, the lack of sewers is something the state should investigate installing. Most sites were level but some very out of level and many are occupied by horse personnel. For this year, be aware much construction going on due to the World Equestrian event next year. Roads are being updated and the Horse Park itself is being renovated so construction shortcuts are necessary. We will certainly return.
The CG is still a good stopover location or even a destination spot. The owners are some of the best around. Always there to assist you may it be after hours our during the day. We can see why they are rated number one in Kentucky. They have a lot of respect for the CG and it shows. We will stay here again and again.
KOA campground itself - staff very friendly, the park is very well kept however the WIFI was not good. We were in deluxe site and unable to connect to WIFI. The staff indicates they are using a new provider and are not sure why we are not connecting. The deluxe site are amongst seasonal sites and stored units. Roads in this area kind of tight but workable for backing in. There were unannounced activities during our week stay. Our Granddaughter was not happy about missing activities. We have heard of ripoffs in RV park stores but this was the worst - they wanted $8 a gallon for milk - just down the road at Food Lion it is $2.99. Needless to say we stayed away from purchasing items in the camp store. Negatives of campground, but out if their control - constant flyover by sightseeing helicopter rides. o low at times cannot hear people talking. The traffic was terrible plus the campground advertises small walk to beach - it is about 4 blocks that is dangerous. Crossing one major road with light however the other two roads, in particular Ocean Blvd, there is no crosswalk. When taking your swim gear and children this is really, really bad and dangerous. We would still stay here again. Just make sure you do not arrive on a Saturday - will take forever to get into MB due to stop and go traffic.
Overall the CG is good for an overnight, sites mostly level, full of shade trees. Hosts were very kind and helpful. The swimming pool was one of the best we have seen for awhile. It was well taken care of and clean. Downside - gravel road leading up to office - pretty good grade so we sat at bottom of hill until another camper moved as could not tell if enough room for two units at top of hill. We did not want to get stuck in the gravel (we experienced this in the past). There is a reasonable amount of noise from I-40 but with A/C on, it was not as noticeable. Big note to tall rigs - on entry road before getting to CG, cable & telephone wires very low. Winnepeg Vectra in front of us entering got the wires entangled on the roof of unit. Blocked road until they got on top via ladder to undo the wire. We would stay here again
This CG is now known as Hocking Hills KOA. We are giving an overall rating of 9 as it is a very nice CG with very clean restrooms/showers along with CG. The staff was very understanding, helpful and friendly. We stayed in a deluxe site that included a stoned patio, Weber grill, patio table and chairs. The site was level. No matter what site you are assigned, there is very significant space between sites, contrary to most KOA's. With these items stated, some other facts need mentioned. The CG is built on top of a hill and is very, very tiered. As stated in other post, if you have a questionable tow vehicle or one with two wheel drive, this could be a problem due the hills in the CG as roads are all gravel. In fact our CG neighbor could not make up hill to CG. Had to backup and start over. Entry road has blacktop but very rough and at top turns to gravel. We could also see many sites whereby the camper had to use a lot of wood for stabilizers indicating possible unlevel sites. TV reception left much to be desired. All stations CG indicated were available, were all snowy and one station we could not get at all and we have a new HD TV. Also for our deluxe site for $65 night, cable should be included. Internet - they do have but first hour is free per day however after this, fees are imposed. In order to continue the use, must use credit card or paypal. Not sure what the fee is as we did not use. Scenery in area is very beautiful.
Our first time at this campground and will return. The sites are set up whereby there are no problems of putting out slides etc. Not cramped in as in most places. Facilities were very clean and the staff was wonderful and were escorted to our site. They even offered to assist in backing up the trailer. Even though close to the City of Lebanon, you feel as though the campground is secluded. It was nice to hear the birds chirping in the morning and watching the squirrels running around instead of listening to interstate noise. Many activities around such as flea markets, antiques, amusement park.
Woodall's stated this is a 5 star location - it deserves a minus 5 and Woodall's needs to review their findings. We pulled in and then pulled out. The worst campground we have visited. Their website looked great and looked forward to the location. First off you are not escorted to your site. We could not even find our spot however while driving around we saw all the seasonals (which many look like the slums of inner city). The CG needs major major upgrade. Trash, broken glass, buildings looked like they have not been cleaned in years. It was just awful. Whatever you do, save the time driving the narrow roads leading up to the CG. Go elsewhere.
One of the best KOA's we have visited. In fact we have been there 4 time so far in 2008 and have more planned Owners have been very kind and helpful along with staff. Owner even helped us with a major slideout problem with camper. We were able to get the slideout to work enough to close so it could be taken to dealer for repair. Overall the facility is very clean and well kept. The facility accomodates all types of RV's and tents. The new cafe adds to the overall satisfaction of the facility. Easy access to I-70 and has many trees so plenty of shade.
1. Did not get promised site and staff had a "oh well" attitude. 2. Safety - sites with nails coming out of wood that is holding back rock. These could inflict severe injury to anyone not seeing the nails. Could tell this just did not happen, has been there for awhile. 3. Overall we found the KOA to be in need of a overhaul - appears to be in general disarray. 4. We are mostly dedicated KOA campers so we were very disappointed with this facility. The office, pool area was in good shape though. The sites have much to be desired.
Staff very friendly and helpful. This was not the first time we have visited this CG. The site was set up to accomodate any type camper that visits. No problem in finding a long enough electric cord or addition to sewer hose. Only drawback is the narrow roads. If not watching, damage can be done to a trailer or not even be able to get to a site. We will definitely revisit this campground again plus if just for overnight, good sites whereby unhooking not required.
